Jesse Dee & Jacquie B have been honing their craft relentlessly for the past 3 years. The songs on their newest release Our Ghosts Will Fill These Walls (summer 2011) are the result of a journey that continues to unfold. The trials of the road have matured their music along with their souls, and the small mountain hamlet tucked away in the hills of northern BC has shown them what a bit of quiet can do.

What started out as a duo, and in many cases still is, has blossomed into a full four piece. Writing their songs more and more with a band in mind, their latest endeavours have allowed Jesse Dee & Jacquie B to create two very distinctive kinds of music. On the one side, harder-hitting folk/rock with jazzy stops, builds and textured instrumentation reminiscent of Ryan Adams, The Band, and early Grateful Dead; on the other, sweet harmonies and delicate electric guitar in the vein of Luke Doucet and Ani Difranco. This juxtaposition of styles not only makes for an engaging live show, but also allows Jesse & Jacquie to fit into nearly every schedule and setting, whether it be a relaxing afternoon set, a collaborative workshop, or a late night floor shaking dance party.

With well over 100 shows per year since 2008, Jesse & Jacquie are decidedly one of Canada’s heaviest touring acts. They have 2 studio recordings in their holsters, A Cross Pollination Of Service Station Scrawl (2008) and Greenhouse (2009). The duo are in the midst of finishing their newest, full-length offering, Our Ghosts Will Fill These Walls, which is scheduled to be released this year. Our Ghosts is a culmination of the roads traveled and lessons learned over the past 3 years and promises to be their most comprehensive record to date.

The perfect festival act, whether as a duo, trio, or 4 piece, Jesse Dee & Jacquie B have the versatility, songcraft, and humble charm to leave an impression on any audience.

Matthew Hornell is returning from the East to play the Little Beaver on Tuesday, July 5th! Last time he came through this area with his band “The Diamond Minds” and rocked the house with some great folksy Celtic rock and a high energy stage show. This time he is coming by himself for a solo performance. He told us personally that he is bringing the same energy and flare for the stage as last time.

Matthew Hornell is a singer and a songwriter from Newfoundland and Labrador. After bursting onto the St. John’s music scene with live shows that showcased his unflagging energy, Hornell’s award-winning debut album, released in 2010, firmly established him as a vital new voice in the songwriting community of Atlantic Canada.

On the heels of his debut release, Hornell received four Music NL awards – including Entertainer of the Year and the Rising Star Award. He has shared stages with such talented musicians as Elliott Brood, Sloan, David Francey and Brian Borcherdt and brought his songs to shows and venues all across Canada.

Tickets are $15 and the show will start at 8:00. See you there!

Also, he has recently updated his website, so check it out! www.matthewhornell.com

Hello and Happy New Year!

We are starting the year off right by having two time F.F. Folk Festival veterans the Auditor General be the first act of 2011. If you missed them at the festival, they have always been a fan favourite. They blend folk music and rock seamlessly with singer Jamie Smith writing soulful melodies to tie their sound together. The group explores complex lyrical themes through memorable, simple hooks that will tap your toes and hearts. The boys have opened for the likes of Elliott Brood, Rural Alberta Advantage, The Wooden Sky and Yukon Blonde to name a few. If you want to check out their music ahead of time to see why we love this band so much, Click Here for their Myspace Page.

The show is on Friday, January 28th, and we’ll be kicking off the show at 8:00pm. The price is $15 at the door.

A Little Beaver Disclaimer: This band is awesome and you will love it, but they have a drummer. All of our experiences so far with drummers is that our acoustics at the Little Beaver make drummers loud, even when they play quiet. The Auditor General is by no means a hard rock band, but it may still get a little loud. These guys are so good, I don’t think you’ll mind.

Hope to see you there!
Carson and Lindsay

Matthew Hornell and the Diamond Minds play the Little Beaver Cultural Centre Sunday, November 28th!!!

Matthew Hornell and the Diamond Minds find themselves among the many gems to emerge from the rich and diverse music scene of St. John’s, Newfoundland. There is something distinctively different about this folk-roots ensemble that legitimizes their name. The diverse musical backgrounds of the members–some long and some much shorter–lend to a raw, earthy sound accompanied by an honest naivety in Hornell’s lyrics that is hard to come by these days.

Joshua Bourden – Percussion
Matthew Hornell – Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica

Quotes

“Hornell is intimate with his audience…people are dancing and singing along to his catchy folk songs. Seemingly out of nowhere, Hornell has established not only a fan base, but a community around his music.” The Scope (2009)

“Matthew Hornell & The Diamond Minds are an exciting folk/rock fusion that could be “the next big thing” in modern Newfoundland music. Their live shows are incredibly energetic, and they don’t mind giving 110 per cent every show they play.” Kevin Kelly – Upon This Rock CHMR-FM (2009)

“…it all comes down to timeless melodies, wonderfully poetic lyrics and thoughtful delivery. The band has constructed a solid collection of folk-rock songs that are honest, energetic, smart and always engaging. These are songs you’ll want to play and sing.” Robert Hiscock – Product of Newfoundland (2009)

“Fresh on the scene out of St. John’s, Newfoundlan…
“Fresh on the scene out of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Matthew Hornell’s songs aim right for your gut, riding on pure emotion. His well-crafted folk songs draw you in, you’ll be singing along, feeling at home as in front of the campfire with good food and friends. Sounding timeless, yet fresh and bold, the songs are executed with whip-crack precision.” Dashiell Brown, The New Spin (2009)

“The diverse musical backgrounds of the members lend to a raw, earthy sound accompanied by an honest naivety in Hornell’s lyrics that is hard to come by these days. When Matthew Hornell and the Diamond Minds take their songs on the road, the rest of the country will be better for it.” Justin Brake – The Telegram (2008)

Come listen to Mitch MacDonald sing his heart out for you Sunday, November 21st, 2010.

Doors at 6 pm

Preformance at 7pm

$15 at the door

Kitchen and Licenced Bar Open during the performance

ALL AGES WELCOME

Mitch MacDonald is a compelling singer, established guitarist and versatile stage performer. He has captivated audiences from small town kitchen Ceilidhs to sold out shows in concert theatres across the country. MacDonald is a Canadian Idol finalist with a national fan-base preparing to burst onto the music scene.

At the age of 25, Mitch MacDonald has reached more musical plateaus that most up and coming artists never accomplish. Having been a seasoned performer since his teenage years on Cape Breton Island, it wasn’t until the spring of 2008 that Mitch reluctantly auditioned for season 6 of Canadian Idol. Over a dozen episodes later, Mitch found himself standing centre stage as a Top 3 Finalist. This afforded him the opportunity to collaborate with the likes of platinum selling artist Bryan Adams, as well as the
legendary Sir Tom Jones. Mitch emerged as a small town entertainer and was then catapulted onto the national stage. He then realized that his lifelong passion of being a seasoned performer to fans across the nation could become a reality but he would have to make song-writing his focus to achieve that goal.
His song-writing style is a mix of alternative country, indie-folk, and soulful acoustic, but he has also been experimenting in the studio with new material that has more of a pop-rock feel.

Mitch grew up with a wide range of musical influences such as old country, celtic, and rock and roll. He finally found himself in his teenage years listening to the prodigious Ryan Adams and clever singer-songwriters like Neil Young and John Prine. He learned at a young age to appreciate a well written song which led him to his current favourites, Bon Iver and Mumford & Sons. If there was one artist who truly inspired Mitch – it is fellow Cape Bretoner, Gordie
Sampson, who has written songs for Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and more.

Mitch has had a number of occasions to perform with Gordie and hopes to team-up with him on a couple of songs for his debut album due next year.
Mitch reciprocates his musical influences in his live shows and gives the audience an evening worth remembering.
